Bit the bullet

I finally found flights that would (only slightly painfully) work for us to go to Vegas. Since DF has no time off, we're getting back home around 7:25 on Monday morning. Which leaves enough time (assuming on-time flights) for us to get get in and get our luggage, drop me and our stuff back at the apartment, and get him in to work on time.

We tried to book at Circus Circus, since someone had said something about it being right next door, but last night their online reservation system went south, and so I started poking around at other places. Westward Ho was one step closer and much, much cheaper, but DF insisted on putting us up in the event hotel. In a suite. So, I have room if anyone should want to come stitch, at least. ;)

Trying to get a little cleaning up done here, then I hope to sit and stitch, haven't now since Sunday.

My 'Secret' for Stitching More

Keep in mind that I don't stitch much, and I went for a bit over a year with just one ornament HD, and little bits here and there of stitching on a few projects.

Part of that can be blamed on the fact that I don't watch much TV. I spend most of my day while DF is at work, planted in front of the computer. And it's hard to stitch and surf at the same time.

But since I've moved here to SJ and have my stitching chair in the sun, and have been trying to spend more time with DF in the evenings while he watches TiVo and surfs on his laptop in the TV room, I have been stitching a good deal more.

I've found what makes it easy to stitch is just having a project handy, ready to pick up and start stitching. Last night, while I did watch some TV with DF, he wanted me to get info on the TW get together, and then I tried to find some decently priced airfare that matches his schedule. I finished, and I might have stayed and stitched, but I knew I had to hunt down the project (still in the bag from our trip), the floss colors I needed but didn't take along (took a couple wrong ones, oops!), and just knowing I had to hunt things down and get settled in, I ended up not. He had put in some anime he picked up at the Con that I just totally wasn't interested in, and so I went and did other things.

If I'd had my project all together, I think I might have stayed, at least for a little bit. Till the stupid sitcom-ness of the program he picked got to be too much. Ah, well. ;) Going to try to have something ready to work on this evening.

Dashed to the Ground

DF and I were talking today, and he managed to convince me to agree to going to Vegas for the TW World Wide Get Together, as a birthday present to me, since he knows I really want to go.

Great in theory, but then we looked at airline tickets, or more correctly, the lack thereof.

He has no real time off right now, between the move, and two more days last week for Comic Con. So, we'd have to leave Friday evening, and come home Sunday evening. But the only tickets available get us there at 12:03 Saturday morning, and leaving 6:30 Sunday morning. So for 30 hours in Vegas, we'd be paying $700 for air and hotel. Not to mention food, the airport shuttle, and so on. So... unless I come up with some great way to go on my own for about $300, it's just not going to happen.

I was dealing with missing it a lot better before I let my hopes get raised. :\ And yeah, I have no one to blame but myself, for not making plans a lot earlier.

Home again, home again...

And boy, did I stitch.

Comicon was fun, frustrating, tiring, and very good for getting some stitching done.

First off, the rest of what I got done on WHG:

Then, the French Mystery Garden, before I left for Comic-Con:

and when I got home:

If someone can tell me the designer's name, I will update the copyright info... unfortunately I don't speak or read French, and I can't seem to find a surname on her site to give her proper credit.

I took some wrong colors for Mystery Garden, when I left for San Diego, so the center of block one is not done, and I'm not finished with block two. I'm also substituting beads for one yellow color, and I'll do those all at the end. I want to finish up these two squares, then move on to another project for the week, probably back to the Dutch Treat table topper.
