I'm still alive

Despite missing the last Bay Area GTG, I am still alive. Fact is, I was over in Palo Alto, meeting this guy:

He happens to be Alton Brown of Food Network's Good Eats show. One of Sam's co-workers turned us on to GE about 9 months ago, and we were quickly hooked. Quirky humor, interesting food science info, and some darned good recipes.

Alton was signing his books (we have two) and doing a couple cooking demonstrations for the Simon Malls "Super Chefs Live" promotion they had going on. And being the dedicated fans that we are, we had to go, since it was all of 20 minutes from us.

We stood in line through the first demo, got him to sign our books and pose for the picture (thanks to our friend Suzy who took pictures for us), then stayed for a second cooking demo, where I took lots of pics and a few short movie clips with my new camera. I had a lot of fun, and I think we even turned Suzy on to the show, especially since we cooked up a couple of the recipes (Pan fried chicken, and puffy chocolate chip cookies) while she was here.

After Vegas, I ended up going to Seattle the next Sunday and staying 4 days with my mom, got home Thursday, and Friday we had company. Now I actually have a few days to relax and unwind before our next trip (a week from this Friday), where we're driving down to L.A. for a big birthday happening (four of us within about 4 days of each other), and then, maybe, my life will settle down. But heck, it's been fun. :)

I was so excited... when I went to the first bay area GTG, a couple other stitchers (I think Jenharper and Ann D.) were talking about having met him here just a month or so before (so May, I guess). And of course just after we moved up here, he was at a mall that would have been near us back down in So. Cal. So I was really happy to hear he was coming back up here.

I kind of felt bad about dragging our company to a book signing she wasn't interested in, but she didn't seem to mind. Believe me, I was ready to go by myself and take public transit up to the mall if I had to! LOL :)
